ABC Storytelling

ABC storytelling is a right of generational passage for the Deaf Community, this art form of storytelling dates back to the nineteenth century. In ABC stories each sign is a representation of one of the twenty six hand shapes in the manual alphabet from letter A-Z.

Like spoken language, these the stories can infer a variety of topics such as; a football game, wedding, celebrations etc. In the storytelling process it’s pertinent that the transitions between signs be fluid just as it would be in spoken language.

Additionally, It’s noteworthy to mention that these stories are difficult to be translated into English or into the spoken language germane to ones country. The reason for difficulty in translation?  The sign is dependent upon the visuals effects created amid the ABC story.
